LOTS of problems on this board right now are because people don't know how to use common decency/sense regarding how they post, the language they use, or the subjects they post on.

The reason why a lot of you are deciding it's all the sudden OK to do this is because there are no consequences right now.

I lay a lot of that at the feet of Hostboard for not granting us the moderation/administration responsibilities that Rock, myself, and the other mods on here should have in order to keep the board running smoothly. Steven--sorry if that upsets you because I know you all work extremely hard...but it's been almost 5 months at least since we started making changes to our board, and putting it in with the Hostboard community--and still, things aren't right...when "right" to us would be at least close to the way things were before we were absorbed into the Hostboard community. I hope things get rectified soon. If not, you may see a mass exodus (even bigger than the first one back in January/February) from this board, and people who are going to give a bad name to this set-up when they speak about it to their friends/family/colleagues, fairly or unfairly.

BUT--back to the matter at hand--people overstepping the bounds of common courtesy/decency. Just know that a lot of you can hind behind screen names, say the things that you are saying, but keep in mind that if/when we do get our moderation responsibilities back to not be surprised when you're booted. Also keep in mind that if we are eventually forced off of this board and another one is created, that we'll be keeping an eye out for you and that you'll be watched VERY CLOSELY due to your actions in the absence of moderation on this board.

So--enjoy messing up your reputations as posters on this board as mice playing while the cats are declawed...but just like anyone who decides to do something they shouldn't...it will end up catching up with you when the time comes. That's a promise from me to you.

There are people who are reading this that have PM'ed myself and other mods asking why things aren't being more closely moderated, and saying that they are leaving this board of their own volition, or asking if their account can be made read-only/non-posting. Hostboard--know that you're a cause of this problem by not giving us any tools to keep this board in check, and those that are abusing the posting privileges on this board--know that you're another cause of this problem due to your language/actions towards other posters on this board.

I hope this sets the record straight as far as what we can/can't do as mods, and where the fingers should be pointed re: this board's problems. If you have a problem, since myself and the others admins/mods don't have any powers right now--blame them, hold them accountable. We've done all we can do as mods/admins.

Sorry if this upset any of you--but you were warned in the subject line. I hope it did upset some of you and make you think about what needs to be done in order to make things right.

Why not just say who is breaking the rules,, maybe that would help everyone.. instead of seemingly blaming everyone on the board.

What about logging in? If they don't, they can still read everything and can't post.

Here's the reason:

People who have asked me this WANT to post. They just feel that arguing with people who are going to do nothing but call them "ignorant no-toothed redneck" or "tree hugging liberal atheist" IN A SPORTS RELATED THREAD (or really any thread--but esp. sports related) is an absolute waste of time. And they're right--it is. If you disagree with a certain 5-6 posters on here, you're labeled one thing or another, and no credence is given to what you actually think. You're called dumb and all kinds of other names, and your point/idea isn't even taken into consideration for conversation. That's not a board--this is like Flame World War III.

We don't have the ability to police any of that as mods right now, and with our moderation duties--it should never come to the point that these other posters should have to ask to be taken off the membership. We should be able to keep things in check--but for now, we cannot. And it's a crying effin shame that those good posters decide not to be here/not post as much/just read, when they have every right to. Just a few are messing things up for most of the others on here--and it's not right.

Because everyone knows who they are, including those doing it. Putting their names up here would only tickle them and incite them to do even worse. Myself and the rest of the mods can't do anything about it right now w/o mod responsibilities--so when you see someone abusing the rules we had laid down on the other board, as a poster--call them on it. Maybe a little bit of accountability to other posters will help in the meantime...but it may not. Just know that if/when we do get those tools back to hold them accountable as mods that it will occur, no questions asked.

So, the ones who are doing this, are they to expect that when you all get your tools back that they can expect to be banned for something that happened in the past? I'm sorry, but banning people for something they did in the past is just not right. I say, tell them when you get your tools and then ban them if they "transgress". Just banning them right off the "bat" with no warning is not right. Even a "condemned" person is allowed his/her appeals before sentence is carried out.

We all know who those people are and that is why most everyone is waiting to post. Just don't bite into their immaturity.

Well, you tell me how under-modding it in the past little bit has worked out. Even my favorite board, the one in my sig line, is moderated somewhat, though most of the people on here would DIE if they saw half the stuff that was on it--and would for sure get exceptionally offended. BUT--if people on COH.com go way too far over the line--they get booted...plain & simple at the sole discretion of the site's owner. That's stated in the sign-up rules up front.

Here, we need the tools to enforce some set of rules of common decency/sense to keep things running smoothly. The reason why this forum has gone to s*** is because we can't do anything about content, and the aforementioned software problems that, admittedly, Steven & his people are working on continuously.
